Celebration of Life: Shaylee Bell
For over 10 years Shaylee was a familiar and welcome sight at science fiction, fantasy, and horror conventions in the Pacific Northwest, bringing life to daleks Clara and Dale through movement and music. If we tried to estimate the number of Shaylee dalek appearances and the number of photos that exist in the world of happy fans posing with the iconic Doctor Who aliens, it would be in the thousands. Shaylee built the daleks in her small apartment, spending countless hours to provide entertainment and education about Doctor Who and UK shows and movies. She gave generously and lovingly of herself and her creations not only at conventions, but also to Seattle LBGT+ communities by participating in Pride Day parades and was even featured in local news reports when she took Clara on Metro bus rides to events. Sometimes, she said, the daleks were charged fares while other times Clara was categorized as “luggage”.
Shaylee passed away on July 3, 2024 after a long struggle with multiple cancers. The loss of her loving and generous spirit is a blow to all who knew her. A big fan and supporter of the UK archaeology show Time Team, before her passing Shaylee was asked by friend Julie, “Do you want cremation, or be an archaeological record?” We all knew what her answer would be. She smiled through her pain and said, “on archaeological record” and asked to be buried.
It is assistance with the cost of burial that we ask you to donate. The total cost of services (cemetery plot, headstone, funeral home services, etc) is approximately $10,700. Our goal is to raise as much of this as possible, the reminder provided by Julie.
Together, we can honor Shaylee's memory. Thank you for your kindness, generosity, and unwavering support.
