Help fund school, educate many

I am starting this fundraiser to fund teaching and improve educational tools of a school which has stood the test of time since the last 80 years or so, with a proud history of educating 1000s of children, including me. I am a Cancer scientist who completed his primary education in this school, eventually graduated from engineering college, got my Ph.D. from University of Texas-MD Anderson Cancer Center, carried out postdoctoral studies at Harvard Medical School affiliated Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. In my career currently, I am working as Senior scientist at a biopharma startup, with aim to find medicine for rare, underserved and neglected cancers. I can confidently say that because of strong foundation of early education provided by this school, I have reached this phase of career, to be part of mission to find medicine for the deadly disease called CANCER that claims millions of lives each year. This school and the nearby lower primary school resides in the small village of Manila, located in Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka state, India. It is the sole source of education for children belonging to more than 300 families who live in the area. While it is a beacon of education and hope for betterment in their state for the thousands of children and their families who live there, due to declining funds from external funding bodies such as government, school has got to the point where teachers’ salaries are being funded by local families themselves, with limited means. As a result the school is floundering and her threadbare educational tools are in dire need of upgrades. Currently the school serves more than 100 students in various grades of school starting from 1st grade to 7th grade. Due to the lack of latest education materials such as computer, digital teaching aids, these kids remain devoid of such knowledge when they go to higher grades/more advanced schools in nearby towns for further education. This puts them at a serious disadvantage since the very beginning of their young lives, where education is the sole source of providing means for their families to climb out of abject poverty. Should you choose to contribute, your contribution will directly help to buy computers, upgrade classrooms with better seating, to pay part of the salary for one teacher. I request you to consider contributions to this fundraiser and try and contribute to maximum the best of your ability. While this fundraiser is for the benefit of my alma mater, there are numerous schools in nearby areas that will need help as will, and for the long term I would like to identify such schools and run fundraisers as much as I can and your inputs and insights in this area would be greatly appreciated. Last but not the least, I will be running a Half marathon this October 13th and will be dedicate this run to all you amazing people who have helped to fund the school and be part of educating these amazing kids who will have a bright future, due to your contributions.
