Help fund Ruby's vet treatment after her terrible accident
*Fundraising Closed - see update 18/10/25)*
On Sunday 12th October, our worst nightmare came true. Our fox red labrador Ruby went missing after getting spooked and losing sight of her mum in Mouldon Park in Swindon on Sunday afternoon.
We searched day and night, with the incredible help and support of the Swindon community & local dog rescue charities, hoping and praying for any sign of her.
After two nightmarish days and nights, Ruby was found. She had somehow managed to drag herself over a mile after being hit by a van on Thamesdown Drive, trying desperately to make her way home. When she was discovered, she was lying deep in some bushes in a community member’s front garden. She was exhausted, frightened, and in unimaginable pain, but alive. ❤
Ruby is now being cared for by the amazing team at Eastcott Vets in Swindon. Her injuries are really severe. Both of her back legs are badly damaged, with deep wounds that go down to the bone. One leg has a bone infection, which is currently her biggest battle. She’s heavily sedated, on strong pain relief and antibiotics, while the vets fight to save her limbs. There’s a chance she may need an amputation and could lose some toes on the other foot, but she’s fighting with all the courage in the world.
We anticipate the cost of Ruby's treatment being in the region of £15,000 depending on her recovery and any further treatment she may require. Our insurance covers her up to £6,500, leaving us with a huge financial gap, but we’re hoping with the incredible support of the community we can give Ruby the chance she deserves.
We’re asking for help from anyone who can spare even a small donation. Every single pound will go directly towards Ruby’s care and recovery. Your support means everything to us. The kindness shown by the Swindon community over these past few days has been genuinely overwhelming and has been the bright spot in one of the worst weeks of our life. We will never forget it. Even if you can share this GoFundMe, it would be so helpful.
If, by some miracle, we raise more than Ruby needs, any remaining funds will be donated to DroneSAR for Lost Dogs UK and Southern Counties Lost Dog Tracking, the incredible volunteers who helped us search for Ruby day & night and bring her home. These amazing volunteers were simply incredible and we couldn’t have done this without them. They need specialist equipment, to help them continue doing what they do.
Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts for reading, sharing, and supporting us during this difficult time.
With love,
Ruby & Family
