Hi, my name is Kayla Valery and like majority of people, an unfortunate event has lead me to GoFundMe. January 26th was the start of some chain reaction medical events that has brought my best friend Rex into Blue Pearls Emergency hospital today.
At a young age of 14 months, Rex and I have been traveling between two different vets keeping his seizures under control. Everything has been looking up, the phenobarbital has been working amazingly and we are 1.5 months and counting seizure free. In this past month Rex and I have enjoyed training, swimming, boat rides, fetch, countless car rides, photo shoots, walks, playing with his siblings, Dairy Queen runs and basically anything you’d want to do with your bestie.
At this time Rex is getting some of the best care at Blue Pearl in Maitland from their staff and doctors. The doctors and I don’t believe it is time to walk away however, with the emergency bill climbing steadily up, the gas to and from Maitland, and the special medications needed at this time, I am officially financial capped. The doctors would like to test for tick borne illnesses, a spinal tap, and a couple different biopsy’s, X-rays, and abdominal ultrasound along with over night emergency care.
I’ve gone back and forth about starting up a gofundme for many reasons. One reason being, I understand people have different views on how much one should spend on an animal. It’s also very embarrassing asking for financial help. I also feel as if it is selfish to ask because of the insanely hard time we are all living in today. However, Rex is running out of options withoutfinding the correct diagnosis.
The doctors believe there are a couple different potential diagnosis’s but all require test I can no longer afford. The amount of love from friends and families reaching out has filled my heart. Many of you have been asking is there anyway you can help and all I can ask for is prayers, positives vibes, and sharing Rex’s GoFundMe.
There is so much life left in this puppy. Rex is the type of dog whose loyalty is almost sickening. He’s my little shadow. The dog that has challenged me and pushed me more than any other dog I have ever had. My heart breaks to see my most full of life dog seem so lifeless.
We (myself, the doctors, Briana) are holding onto hope that this can be treatable. Right now they are treating Rex on the path of a tick borne illness. He is on the proper antibiotics for that, constant fluids, and rest. His CBC is very off. His white blood cell count is pretty non existent at this time and he is also anemic. There is a lot going against him but he is strong!
Help give Rex a chance at a full life. 1 year just isn’t long enough.
