What is Exposure?
Exposure is a political thriller set in the not-too-distant future, focusing on racial profiling, intrusive technology, and the future of surveillance.
The recently founded big tech surveillance company, Omnitech, uses face-tracking technology to know exactly where you are at all times. The government works alongside Omnitech and has implemented a risk system for the public in the name of combatting terrorism.
The Story
Emily, a fearlessly driven reporter, wants to expose the injustice of the recently implemented surveillance system which she suspects is being used to target minorities. After recording a seemingly unprovoked police attack, Emily brings the footage to the newsroom where she works.
The victim of said attack is a Uyghur Muslim named Ahmet. Through the POV of a nearby Omnitech CCTV camera, we see that the face-tracking technology has identified Ahmet as ‘high risk.’ This is a term used for those who engage in illegal and undesired behaviour.
Emily hopes that by airing the footage, she can expose the government. However, her boss, Tim, does not share this optimism. Tim believes that people value security over injustice, so releasing the footage will not make any meaningful change. As a compromise, Emily is tasked with finding evidence of Ahmet’s innocence.
Throughout Exposure, Emily’s beliefs are tested. Do people really value their security over everything else? Emily must discover the truth and expose both Omnitech and the government. However, those who want to silence her are closing in with every step…
