On February 2nd, my mom was going about her evening as usual when she suddenly had difficulty breathing. By happenstance, both of my sisters just got home from work and quickly got my mom into the car to go to the doctor's. However, soon our mom lost consciousness and her heart beat stopped; it was a a heart attack and they had to perform CPR and rush her to a hospital immediately.
At the hospital, the doctors successfully resuscitated our mom but she was diagnosed a major and a minor coronary blockage. They had to immediately perform an angioplasty to clear up the blockage. That worked, but other complications arose. There was food backflow into the lungs during the resuscitation and blood was pooling in both her lungs and stomach. Although the blood cleared up, she is still under antibiotics to prevent infections from the former. She is currently being monitored in the intensive care unit on a ventilator and is still sedated. Due to the resuscitation, the doctors also diagnosed a case of pneumothorax - air is leaking from her lungs into the chest cavity and the doctors are intervening to resolve it.
Our mom appears to be slowly getting better but still needs to be kept in the ICU. We are informed that once the pneumothorax is resolved, the sedatives will be reduced and we hope that our mom will be responsive.
Due to the urgency of the situation, my sisters rushed our mom to the hospital closest to our home, which is a private hospital. Although we hope to have her transferred a public hospital whenever possible, it is still not possible as the doctors say that she is still not stable enough. This means we are incurring and still accumulating large medical bills until we can get her transferred.
We are extremely grateful to the concern shown by all of the people around us. Any contributions that you can make will be very much appreciated and will go towards our mom's financial expenses. Please do not hesitate to contact me, or my sisters Angel and Karen, and we can provide Malaysian banking details for direct transfer.
