Hi, my name is Justin McAffee, and I'm a filmmaker working on telling the story of the existential threat to our Mojave and Great Basin desert ecosystems. Right now, there are 9 million acres open to solar development in Nevada alone, and the applications are pouring in. In our first episode, we went to look at the 30 square miles in the Pahrump Valley already with planned projects. Between this, urban sprawl, a mining revolution and disappearing water supplies, we have our hands full to tell these stories.
That's why we need your financial support to make this film and series a reality. We have to travel to various places in the state with film crews; purchase/replace gear most people don't think about, like hard drives to store and backup the footage; and spend hours editing the footage into viewable pieces.
We will release new episodes as we go, and in 2023 we will edit a feature-length film we hope will persuade change and excite a movement to preserve one of the last outbacks in the lower 48 states. These ecosystems sustain our own lives on this planet. Destroying them releases carbon into the atmosphere and affects air quality, and contributes further to the extinction crisis that threatens the future of our species.
We are very much grateful for your support in making this project a reality.
Justin McAffee and the rest of the crew.
