Help Fund Ollie's Life-Saving Surgery
Donation protected
Earlier this week I got some bad news. My dog Oliver (“Ollie” as most of you know him) was diagnosed with renal cell carcinoma, i.e. kidney cancer. He has a large tumor surrounding his right kidney. The vet says that if left untreated, Ollie most likely has less than a year left to live, and in a fair amount of pain at that. The good news is, it appears that the cancer hasn't spread to other parts of his body yet, and his left kidney is functioning normally. If his right kidney were removed along with the tumor, he could continue to live with one kidney, and there’s a decent chance that his life could be extended by a few years if not more. He’s only 6 years old, so if he can beat the cancer then he should have plenty of life left in him.
Unfortunately, surgery is expensive—$5000 to be exact. That’s on top of the $2400 that I’ve already spent on diagnostics and preliminary treatment. There will also be the costs of medication and follow-up appointments as he recovers, but I'll roll with those punches as they come; the biggest concern is the immediate price of surgery.
If you’ve ever met Ollie, you know he truly is an earth angel. He’s like a furry, son to me, and if I had the money on hand, I'd schedule the surgery in a heartbeat. But truth is, this past year since the pandemic hit has been a little hard on my pocketbook, to say the least, and I simply don’t have the funds to cover an emergency of this magnitude. I know it’s been a difficult year for a lot of us, so I feel conflicted about asking for help, but Ollie has touched a lot of people’s hearts during his short time in this world, and I’m certainly not the only person who would feel his loss.
If you have the means to contribute to Ollie’s surgery fund, I'd be endlessly grateful for your help. As a small token of my gratitude, to anyone who donates I’ll send a digital download code for the album I put out last year, “Louisiana iris."
Hug your animal pals tight today. And your human family and friends too, as soon as you get the chance.
