Hi everyone! I have been recently interested in education abroad. This fall I applied for a scholarship that would grant me a free year to be an exchange student in Germany for my junior year, but I wasn’t accepted. Though I am disappointed, I am glad that they told me no, because 10 months oversees without being able to see my friends and family was very daunting. Plus the fact that I’ve only been on a plane once in 2018 and have never traveled alone in my life. My dad helped me find another program that let me choose how many weeks I wanted to stay, and which city I get to live in. For this program, I will be attending German language classes every day with kids from all over the world who are interested in learning German as well. The classes get to experience German culture firsthand, as the program also incudes a crap ton of activities around Berlin or Munich that put students in situations where they can interact with the city. I will be staying with a host family, like if I were exchanging for a school year. I will also have a roommate (not specifically from America!) which will be super fun! For 5 weeks the cost was $4,350 and the cost for a round trip on an airplane is around $1,400. I am leaving Saturday, May 24th from Indy to Dublin to Munich. I’ll come back on June 28th. I am really happy that I can go in the summer so I don’t miss school or sports! This spring I plan on getting a job to help my parents with part of the cost, but it’s still expensive. To make things fun, every $10 you donate, I will put your name into a drawing for a free pie. I will draw 4 winners!! I’m really excited that I get the chance to travel and learn this summer and thank you for supporting me!
