Help fund Nathan's treatment to buy precious time

Nathan and Michelle should be planning their wedding for next year. However, due to recent devastating news, they are now rapidly planning treatment for Nathan after he was diagnosed with a Glioblastoma multiforme/ multifocal glioblastoma, a brain tumor.

Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is a fast-growing type of tumor. They are very challenging to treat because of their complex nature. It is aggressive and incurable. Nathan has Glioblastoma multiforme Stage 4. The prognosis is grim, forecasting 4 months of life if he pursues no treatment.

 

Nathan had an initial surgery to take a biopsy, but due to the nature of the tumor and location, chemotherapy and radiotherapy is the only treatment that will buy him time to spend with loved ones. While he has insurance, copays and deductibles are quite expensive. As Nathan's condition progresses, he may require professional in-home support, transportation, or other costs related to his treatment and care. Based on research from 1996, the median total direct cost of patient care with primary brain tumors was $91,000, with radiotherapy and imaging costs being the most expensive. He also provides support to his three children, Brighton (15), Elise (12), and Amelia (11). Nathan is unable to work and FMLA only provides a portion of his income.

 

If you know Nathan, you love him. He is a positive light (not just his glowing hair!) with a dark humor. He is independent and adventurous, fiercely loyal, and gives the best bear hugs. He is always there when a friend needs him. It's our turn to be there for him as he fights hard against this terrible disease, trying to get as much out of life as he can. Please note: Nathan's brother Ian Halverson is listed as the beneficiary in order to manage the finances and expenses. If any proceeds remain from Nathan's care, they will be invested into college funds for his three children.
