As I’m unlearning the hyper-individualistic ways of capitalism and becoming more community-centered, I’ve learned that not only is it important to be of service to others, it is just as important to be willing to ask and accept help from others.

This past January, the day after my birthday, I was laid off from a job that provided me great financial stability. My world shifted in the blink of an eye. Now I, along with many others, am on the hunt for full-time stable income. Thankfully, I’ve landed a part-time gig, but it’s barely helping me get by, and I don’t have a nice degree to fall back on at the time.

Fortunately, I did have a wonderful opportunity fall into my lap that is in alignment with where I’d like to see myself in the coming years. I’m pursuing my RYT 200 (becoming a Registered Yoga Teacher). In doing so, I can lessen my chances of finding myself in this predicament yet again. I just want to be able to continue to provide for my sweet babies as a single mom, and I’m hoping I can rely on the people that love and care about us instead of feeding into a destructive machine by borrowing money from a bank.

The total cost of my certification is $3500, of which I’ve already paid $1750. I’m asking for the remaining $1750 plus an additional $2000 to help me with the coming months’ rent. As I’ve stated, I’m working part-time and side-hustling as much as possible, but I can only do so much with the time I have without burning myself out so I can keep going for my babies. Any remaining funds raised will be put towards other large bills in the chances I do find full-time work that will cover rent. Your contribution will provide me with immense peace of mind and stability for me and my kids while I continue to search for full-time work and pursue a career I’m passionate about.

Even if I don’t reach my goal, I’m happy I went against the grain by asking for help as opposed to struggling in silence as the fists of capitalism continue to crush us all
