Hi!!!! My name is Surela Basu. I am a Bengali American aspiring filmmaker at NYU Tisch Film, and I need YOUR help to bring my story to life.

I am making an experimental film called "SITA". The film follows the story of a young girl who is reincarnated from the soul of the Hindu mythological legend Sita. We watch as she is unable to break the generational curse put on South Asian women, as trauma gets passed down from daughter to daughter like genetics.

This is an incredibly intimate and personal story of how the effects of colonization affect modern-day South Asian women through the patriarchy. Not only is it vital for representation and more diverse stories on screen, this is a passion project of mine to be able to express emotions visually to the world.
