Hello, my name is Mbalenhle Mahlangu, and I am an international student from Johannesburg, South Africa, pursuing my dream of earning a Psychology degree in the U.S. I am just two classes away from completing my associate degree at Skyline College, but I need your support to enroll in summer courses and stay on track for my transfer this fall!
As an international student, I do not qualify for financial aid, and covering summer tuition on my own is a huge challenge. Unfortunately, due to the weaker exchange rate in South Africa, my family is unable to offer any financial support. Your contribution will help me take these courses so I can continue working toward my dream of becoming a child psychologist, specializing in children’s mental health and well-being.
Beyond my studies, I serve as a Student Ambassador and Peer Mentor for two programs on campus: Umoja-ASTEP and the Women’s Mentoring & Leadership Academy. I also have the honor of being the Vice President of the Black Student Union (BSU), where I get to embrace new faces as friends and foster a sense of belonging and community. Through my roles on campus, I work to expand cultural awareness and pride on campus as well as guiding my peers to valuable resources, events, and opportunities that enhance their college experience as a whole.
As the second oldest daughter, I am driven to make my family proud and set an example for my younger siblings back home. I am committed to overcoming every and any obstacle, not just for myself, but to show them that with dedication, and resilience, they too can overcome any challenge and achieve their goals—no matter how big or impossible they may seem. No donation is too small, and every bit brings me one step closer to completing my studies.
