Hi, my name is Denise and I'm a social documentary photographer from London. I'm raising funds to help me work on a personal project documenting the stories of all of those who have been imprisoned for protesting.

Supported by RIPS (Rebels in Prison Support) and CASP (Climate Action Support Pathway) and with a £500 donation I have started the project, however there are around 140 individuals who have been imprisoned, either sentenced or on remand, in the UK to date, and those expenses will not cover my travel around the country to complete this vital project.

This work forms an important social documentary, humanising those who are often demonised in the media as 'eco zealots' or 'terrorists', while also providing a source of information for those taking part in actions that may lead to imprisonment, hearing other peoples stories in order to make an informed choice.

Protest has always been held as a fundamental human right but the world is changing. I believe it is important to highlight and share the stories of those who are pushing the boundaries to enact change. Whichever movement they are from, they are people just like you and me. Stories will be shared on the Rebels in Prison website which is accessible to everyone, and it will form a larger body of work with plans to create a book and exhibition in the future.

The money you donate will help cover travel expenses and editing time for interviews and photographs. There is still a lot of work to be done, and if I don't reach my target I will have nothing to cover even the basic expenses once the initial donation runs out. Thank you so much!
