Hi everyone! My name is MacKenzie Ulibarri and I am a sophomore theatre major at Meredith College! I plan on double majoring in studio art, as art has also been a passion of mine and it would strengthen my abilities as a designer. I’ve attached photos of my artwork and designs.
During my freshman year at Meredith I was nominated to compete at KCACTF Region 4, where I won two awards in the Design and Technologies/Management section for my design in Meredith College Theatre’s She Kills Monsters. I’ve been nominated to attend this year as well in January for my set design for No Exit. I also have been cast as four different roles in MCT’s upcoming production of Julius Caesar, which will be set in a womens’ prison, and will be my first main stage performance at Meredith. All of these wins for my career have been thanks to Meredith’s small and intimate theatre department, where I get individualized one on one attention and mentoring with my professors. The relationships I’ve made at Meredith are filled with people who truly care about me, and it’s become my home.
All of this has changed my life, but between working two jobs, rehearsals for shows, long lab hours working on art projects, and maintaining the workload of a GPA of 3.7, it’s been a struggle keeping up with the financial part of Meredith, and I could really use any help I can get.
I currently have scholarships from my department and from my academic achievements, but it’s just not enough. I hope that by double majoring in art I will open more doors for opportunities for scholarships, but I won’t know until I am able to get there. I owe approximately $6000 for Fall 2019 semester and I won’t be able to attend this spring if I’m unable to complete that payment. The extra room in my goal is so that I’m able to purchase books as well as moving towards paying off what I owe for Spring 2019 semester, and the only reason I’d be allowed to attend this semester is by the kindness of the folks at Meredith, who give me more time after the semester has started to gather the money, so I can at least register and attend classes.
I believe in working hard and doing what you can to help others, but it really takes a village. Anything you’re able to donate is immensely appreciated, and if you’re unable to donate please share this with others.
