After losing my mother in 2021, my family has faced numerous economic hardships, including the foreclosure of our home and having to rebuild our lives from the ground up.

This year, after a domestic violence tragedy inflicted on my immediate family, we were suddenly displaced and cut off from our extended relatives. We lost our sense of safety, our home, and our family support system. As an out-of-state college student who has big ambitions, it is extremely difficult to not put those ambitions on hold as we find our footing again. Nonetheless, I have returned to California to continue pursuing my education. Heinens never give up!
