I have fallen in love with this thing called the “Steadicam.”

A bit about the Steadicam! The Steadi was invented back in the early 70’s by Garrett Brown. Its first notable appearances were in “Rocky” and “The Shinning.” This camera stabilizer revolutionized film and allowed filmmakers the freedom to move around while maintaining a smooth seamless shot! Movie Magic!

The first time I put on a Steadicam rig was at Cinegear in 2023, I immediately fell in love! Since then, it’s all I think about! I have taken several lessons and shadowed a few at Steadicam Lessons with Greg Smith... who is an absolute legend, working as a Steadi Op/Camera Operator on movies like TED, Legally Blonde, Daddy Day Care, Spanglish, the list goes on! I have picked the brains of many steadi ops and have read and continue to read, The Steadicam Operator’s Handbook! This career path is not an easy decision. It is very costly, ranging from $15-20k and it is a physically demanding job. It takes 110% dedication and passion to become an elite Steadi Op. I’ve done a lot of studying and thinking and KNOW this is the path I want to take. I know that I will have the right support system from the Steadicam Community and will have the best mentors to learn from!

I am currently working various jobs, I work as a part-time production runner for Live Nation, casting assistant for Treadwell Entertainment, and a freelance camera assistant and freelance photographer! Although, I love photography and working as a 1st and 2nd camera assistant, becoming a solid Steadicam/Camera Operator (eventually joining the union) is my end game! My current work and income allows me to live in LA, however not enough to put the necessary funds towards my Steadicam dream. At this rate, I will be able to fund my first rig sometime in 2027. I am currently locking in another part time gig which will help speed up the process but funding will still be a roadblock. Every day and month that passes is valuable time honing in my skills in the rig!

I am seeking any kind of help to make this dream come true. With these funds raised, it will go straight to buying a starter Steadicam rig and the necessary pieces of equipment to get me through the first few years of practice and hopefully land a few projects along the way! I am hoping to speed this process up with the help from you all!
