I’m raising funds to attend a 30-day wilderness expedition with NOLS (National Outdoor Leadership School) in the Wind River Wilderness in Wyoming. This program trains students in survival skills, navigation, expedition teamwork, leadership, communication, and self-reliance in remote backcountry environments.
I plan to use this experience in life afterwards for emergency situations, traveling, and surprisingly in future business ventures.
A bit about myself and a proof of capability for this program. I work in a physically demanding construction job, which builds my stamina and endurance daily. On top of that, I train at least 5 times a week in the gym. I enjoy hikes, mountain biking, volleyball, and outdoor activities. I won’t be doing this course for a vacation but instead as a skills development opportunity. I want the real-world challenge and experience in survival and expedition environments.
Cost Breakdown (so you know what your money is going to):
$7,790 - The NOLS Wind River Wilderness course starting Jul 13, 2026, and ending 30 days later on Aug 11, 2026.
$~650 - I plan on driving to and from the NOLS course instead of flying to save money. The $650 is a rough estimate based on gas and food for the two-way 22-hour drive. Depending on the vehicle I take, this could vary and cost as little as maybe $450.
$~500 - Most of the important equipment for the expedition is provided and already included in the large $7,790 price. However, there are some personal items I will need, and I plan on renting them to also save money. Items like an 80-100 liter backpack and a 5-15 degree Fahrenheit rated sleeping bag make up a majority of this cost. The $500 is also an approximate estimate and could be lessened if I manage to uncover any of these items in my home.
I will be contributing to this as much as I can personally, but I figured why not get your help to ease the burden a bit.
Any money remaining after making all the purchases will be used in the event of an emergency and as a contingency fund. I doubt much will be left, but we can hope and pray.
Lastly, once I have the full amount of money saved up just for the course part which includes your donations and my personal contributions, I will purchase the course because if I did it now, they would expect the full amount on April 30th, which is way too close for comfort. If I did it past 75 days till the course, which is the April 30th date, they would give me a 10-day buffer which means I’d be good because I would have all the money by then. Also, I will post proof of course purchase once that's done.
Any support, small or large, brings me closer to completing this expedition. Sharing this page also helps a lot.
