Help fund Mochi's gland surgery
Hi everyone! My name is Vivian and I'm the proud owner of my 10 year old mixed mutt (chihuahua, shih tzu, chowchow, and pitbull according to his DNA test) named Mochi! I got him when he was around 7-9 months, from a home that I'm pretty sure was abusive to him. In all the years I've had him, Mochi has been the definition of a good boy and is the sweetest, most needy dog. He's a lazy boy and loves to lay around all day napping but will never say no to a walk. He's been with me all throughout my high school and college years. I honestly can't believe how lucky I got with such a gentle and sweet dog.
In the past few months, starting around January, I noticed that Mochi wouldn't go outside when he'd usually need to, was eating less, and constantly licking at his behind. Thinking he needed his glands expressed, I did it on him at home and found a lot of blood among the fluid. I took him to the vet, who diagnosed him with an anal gland infection. He was put on a round of antibiotics, and it was at the follow up with the vet where she noticed a small lump in his anal gland. Thinking it was possibly inflammation from the infection, we put him on some probiotics. After his most recent checkup, the vet told me that the lump had doubled in size. We discussed the possible procedures and came to the conclusion that the best route would be to have surgery to completely remove his anal gland and perform a biopsy on the lump. So at the moment, we don't know if the lump is cancerous or not, but we do know that it's causing Mochi discomfort because he still will drop and lick at his behind from time to time.
In addition, I recently noticed one of his teeth went pink, which a google search said is caused by ruptured blood vessels within the tooth. He'll most likely need to extract the tooth or get a root canal done, which can cost anywhere from $1500 to upwards of $6000 depending on a ton of factors.
I'm creating this gofundme to raise funds for Mochi's surgery, which was quoted at $4000 max for consultation, tests, procedure, and aftercare. His surgery consultation is scheduled for May 24, 2021 with surgery happening the very next day if no additional tests are needed. I'm setting the goal with an additional $1500 in anticipation of his required tooth procedures.
As a college student I don't really have a huge amount of money saved up so I've been putting extra time into my side job to save funds for this procedure. If you'd like to help me out, you could check out my custom gaming controllers at @vevancustoms (ig and twitter) or contribute to this campaign. For more time with my dog, I'd be extremely grateful for any help I could get, thank you so much for reading all this way!
