Hi sweet friends. I have trouble asking for almost anything, so this is kind of hard for me to do. So many people reached out and have wanted to help with Miss Ziggy, and friends have suggested I do a GoFundMe.
So here is the story of Miss Ziggy’s surgery... Last Friday, we went on a trip to Alabama to visit my grandmother and family and took our healthy 9 1/2-year-old standard poodle, who is quite popular among our friends and family, with us. When we got there, everything was fine until she had a case of GDV (bloat). Luckily, I recognized the symptoms from all the standard poodle groups I follow. I asked my aunt quickly where the closest emergency vet was in town, and we got her there immediately. This was around 8-9 pm on a Friday night. The vet looked at her and had us back to a little private room and gave us the choice of euthanasia or immediate surgery for $6-7k. It felt like a nightmare I never want to relive. Of course, there was no choice; she is my baby. She had the surgery, and we couldn’t see her until the next day, but it went well, and the vet said she was really healthy for her age. It was so hard seeing her like that and even harder leaving her for another night in a strange town with people she didn’t know. They took excellent care of her, and we were able to pick her up by Sunday afternoon and head back to South Carolina. It was a little stressful traveling that far with her knowing she just went through major surgery, but we did it, and we are home, and she is now recovering and has her people and lots of love. I’m so grateful to the staff and surgeon who saved her life and to everyone who loves and supports her. If you feel inclined to donate any small amount for her expenses, I will be forever grateful, but please don’t feel pressured. I am so grateful for all the prayers, love, and good vibes for her healing!
