Help Offset Maya Fong's Brain Surgery Cost
Donation protected

My name is Wai Ling Fong, and I am raising funds to help offset my niece, Maya Fong's brain surgery cost. She is 3.
My niece was born on December 26, 2018, and is the only child of my brother, Hiong Weng, and his wife, Sue Anne. She is our family's bright light, bringing us immense joy. Shortly before turning 2, Maya began exhibiting epileptic seizures. She started having fainting episodes with jerking movement, gagging, and coughing. Each episode can last up to 30 seconds, occurring as often as 5 to 7 times per day. The highest frequency she suffered was 40 times in one day. Doctors explained that these episodes could affect her brain development during this critical stage of development as a toddler.
For the whole of last year, my brother and his wife seek all possibilities for a treatment that does not involve brain surgery, which comes with multiple risks including a risk to Maya's life. Unfortunately, her epileptic seizure kept persisting despite being prescribed heavy doses of anti-seizure medications. Further tests identified an area of abnormality on the right side of her frontal lobe (front part of the brain). Surgery became the only option for Maya to have the possibility of a seizure and medication free life.
My brother and sister in law are kind, generous and resilient individuals. They are emotionally despaired as parents, not to mention, being financially constrained due to the surgery and Maya's medical care. I am my brother's only sister. I have been living abroad for school, and I have not been home due to COVID-19. Being far away from home makes me feel extremely helpless.
Please help me raise money to support Maya's medical bill. The amount will go towards offsetting Maya's medical bills and supporting Maya's long road toward recovery where physiotherapy is anticipated. This is the least I can do for my brother, who has always been there for me.
Updates:
March 10 - Unfortunately, Maya had two occurrences of fits post surgery. She continues to be under observation.
March 9 - Maya's surgery took place on March 9 in Ara Damansara Medical Center, Malaysia, and she is under observation in the Intensive Care Unit. She is stable but lost mobility on the left side of her body. She is unable to move her left arm, and leg. The doctors have warned us of this risk. We hope that she will regain movement as she recovers.
