Who We Are:
Hi my name is Angelina Noelle (lead researcher and director of this project). As a chronically ill artist I’ve been interested in giving space to stories not usually seen. machine/angel/sickness (or M/A/S) is a devised performance research piece that grew from my senior thesis at NYU Tisch School of the Arts Drama program in May of 2025. This show sits to question the “myth of the chronically ill body” and our society’s expectation to be 100% healthy. machine/angel/sickness takes action to explore the threshold of pain tolerance through movement and song — reckoning with freedom and despair. The active demonization of the sick and invalidation of the chronically ill is something that we hope to highlight with this project. As theatre makers we believe theatre is a vessel for research; M/A/S is a research paper with legs, voices, and performers exploring the unknown.
I’ve been grateful to have this amazing team of multi-hypenate artists who share my passion, curiosity and questions. With the help of producer Clara McKenzie, we've come together to form a research laboratory rehearsal process for a tentative show date of early December 2025. I would be SO grateful to have any and all financial help to fund our project and let it live on stage!
Thank you for considering supporting this project; every little bit can help! <3
What You'll Be Funding:
- Rehearsal rooms for our artists.
- Designer budgets (scenic, costuming, lighting, sound, projections, etc).
- The venue rental for the theatrical performance and technical rehearsal.
If we go past our goal, we'll be funding
- Paying our team— financial compensation for our entire team!
- We are all either recent graduates or still students in university donating our time to this rehearsal/research process. Funding over this goal will provide financial support which is something we can't do alone.
Beyond M/A/S:
If you have a loved one or friend in your life with a chronic illness and/or chronic pain reach out to them. Be there for them, include them, and extend them your patience. We're all human at the end of the week.
