While Covid 19 typically does not alter the lives of healthy, active, young adults my age, for me, it was a completely different story.
July 19, 2020, I survived multiple Covid related strokes affecting the cerebellum of my brain and my spinal cord from C2-C6, caused by blood clots. If you have not heard of a spinal cord stroke, that is because it is extremely rare. Couple that with the blood clot in my brain, the doctors told me I was in uncharted territory. I was admitted into ICU unconscious and paralyzed from the neck down.
Because of the severity and locations of the strokes, I continue to experience lingering paralysis in my right arm along with not being able to feel temperature or sensations throughout my body. I have always been active, I ran track in high school, lifted weights regularly, lifeguarded every summer since I was 15, and enjoyed life as any healthy fun 20 year old would. Even though this type of recovery is complex in nature, and there is very little known about this type of recovery, I am determined to get my life back. I was fortunate to meet a local orthopedic surgeon who is also a survivor of a devastating event that left him a quadriplegic. Overcoming adversity he recovered using a stem cell treatment unique to clinic in California. Each session will cost around tewnty thousand, and we are hoping to do at least 3. Now that we are coming up on 6 months post stroke it is urgent that I receive treatment as soon as possible. Anything that you can donate will help me immensely, thank you.
