Our friends, Jim and Holly Moore, have been through a difficult time this summer and fall and could some help from their friends, loved ones, or anyone else moved by their situation.
In a nutshell, Jim and Holly were away when Hurricane Ida struck. With no power to run their sump pump and dehumidifier, by the time they returned, flooding had caused a frightening mold bloom throughout their home.
Here’s the situation in their own words:
"We’ve had the misfortune of a major mold infestation in our house this summer which resulted in having to vacate it for more than a month while remediation, demolition and reconstruction took place. The financial cost has been significant - close to $60,000 when all will have been totaled - for the remediation, testing, rebuilding, replacement of ruined furnishings, additional medical costs, etc. We’re grateful that our insurance has paid us about $22,000 (the policy limit), but that leaves a significant amount which we have had to pull from our retirement savings.
When friends offered to start a GoFundMe page, we felt somewhat awkward and embarrassed, but they have reminded us that being in community means sharing generously but also, at times, receiving gratefully. We’re in the receiving place at the moment, so if there are people who would like to help us through this financial challenge, we will be very appreciative and promise to “pay it forward” by helping others in the future."
If you would like to help Jim and Holly get back into their home please make a gift through GoFundMe and pass the word along to others who might also share.
Many Thanks,
