It is with deep love and profound sadness that we share the passing of our beloved mother, Karen Ferguson. While our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in remembering the incredible life she lived — a life defined by service, compassion, faith, and the unshakable belief in the power of education.

In honor of her extraordinary legacy, we are establishing The Karen Ferguson Memorial Scholarship, an annual scholarship that will support deserving students — particularly those attending Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and members of the Divine Nine Greek-letter organizations. We humbly ask for your support in bringing this vision to life.

Why This Scholarship Matters

Mom was a proud graduate of an HBCU and a fierce advocate for education. She often said her time in college shaped her, strengthened her, and helped her become the woman she was destined to be. As a Journalism and English double major, she found her voice — and used it throughout her life to uplift others.

She was also a proud, active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, through which she found lifelong sisterhood and a mission rooted in scholarship, service, and sisterly love. She lived those values throughout her life, mentoring young people, volunteering in her community, and always offering a helping hand to those in need.

To continue her legacy of giving, this scholarship will provide financial assistance to college students who embody her passion, strength, and generosity.
