HIPPOCRyTIC OATH is a two-act musical that follows the journey of a newly-qualified doctor from his first day at work.
This timely and edgy story tackles today’s burgeoning health crisis in a way that puts the power to heal back in your hands. In our hands.
How is it edgy? It challenges existing beliefs about what makes us sick and how we heal, but it’s backed by solid science and the research and findings of leading-edge doctors, health practitioners and researchers, as well as time-proven, traditional practitioners.
WHY do we need your help?
There are many steps between the concept and a theatrical production. I put everything I wanted to say into the first draft of the musical, the result being that it’s too long and a little didactic; now, my task is to cut back the dross, refine the message and build the impact.
I also gathered a small team around me; however, two of those people have had to step down for personal reasons and my own process was delayed due to my mother passing away in October. (Her journey offered me another level of insight into the medical model…)
‘Onward and upward!’
I’ll be developing the characters and story line in preparation for writing the second draft in 2026, and calling on three actors to test some ideas and troubleshoot ‘stuck spots’. I have a Story Consultant, a Business Coach with a background in musical theatre, and a very enthusiastic and supportive ex-doctor in the wings – so the journey continues!

WHAT's a ‘Table Read’?

A ‘table read’ gives us a chance to test the existing first-draft script ‘live’ so we can see how it’s flowing, what needs to go, what can stay, what needs tweaking.
Professional actors will ensure we are most efficient with our time. They’ll sing whatever music we have ready or just talk through the lyrics. Then we’ll have a roundtable discussion about how it went, what worked, what didn’t.
WHEN will we present a first production?
After the table read, these are some of the next steps on our way to a first production:
- Musical scores for all songs need to be completed. (Approx $30K)
- Script rewrites as needed, incorporating feedback from the table read. (Approx $10K)
- A marketing campaign to raise the necessary funds for a production. (Approx $10K)
- Staging and costume concepts will need to be developed.
We’re going to need some $50,000 to cover our costs over the next six months while the full show is being composed. When it’s ready, we’ll fund-raise for the rehearsal process, which will encompass actors, director, composer, writer, designers, venue hire, etc.
