Help Fund Grassroots Pride Events in Kuujjuaq
Donation protected
We are organizing the 3rd annual pride in our small town of Kuujjuaq in Nunavik, we want to help Indigenous queers to feel represented and safe in their community. Unfortunately, due to homophobia from the Health Board members (the health board being our primary source of funding for the previous year of pride), funding for essential aspects of Pride was revoked.
These vital aspects included
travel expenses for indigenous youth from other northern communities to attend pride.
travel expenses for indigenous 2slgbtq+ speakers, performers and artists to attend and contribute to the events.
travel expenses for the organizations that were partnering with Kuujjuaq Pride.
Travel is our main concern, due to the travel only being possible through plane and ticket expenses to our community being 2000+$ for a single person. Pride is incredibly important for our community, being a town heavily affected by colonization and native queer youth being at high risk of suicide, so we really want pride to become a highly celebrated event in our community.
