Last Saturday, we gave our girl a bully stick as a treat. Seems pretty normal right? Bully sticks are advertised to be totally digestible and safe for dogs. WRONG. She chewed on it and the next day was very uncomfortable, screaming in pain with massive diarrhea and vomiting. She had gotten food poisoning. Food poisoning turned into something no one could imagine happening. She’s been on steroids, antibiotics and pain pills at this point and will still scream in pain. She cant hardly use her back legs. The vets had to sedate her to take X-rays, give her an enema because she was impacted. Now at this point she’s also looking jaundice so a full blood panel was run. We walk away ruling out certain things but still have to wait. The see a bowel obstruction, also possible liver damage(her enzymes were high), possible blood clot, & even pancreatitis. Please for the love of god DO NOT give your dogs bully sticks. After tons of research there are many cases like our own. These things have been known to be covered with bacteria and nasty stuff if not prepared properly. She didn’t eat the whole thing, didn’t eat a chunks, just chewed on the outer layer, nothing that should have caused this much pain! It is not the first case and I’m sure it won’t be the last. We already have $500 in vet expenses and are looking at thousands in recovery just a few short weeks to Christmas with two kids. Please donate every penny helps in making sure we can provide her the best possible care. She is at the hospital currently treatment ranging from 5-7000 with it possibly being more. Please help.
