What happens when a big life milestone like introducing a significant other to parents gets interrupted by a senseless act of mass violence?

My name is Jeremy Rafal writer and director of Exit 15.

Exit 15 is a thrilling short film that explores themes of love, family, acceptance, and tragedy within the context of the AAPI and LGBTQ+ communities. Join us in bringing this important story as we capture the complexities of human emotions and behaviors while being faced with mortality and what it means to be an American.

Synopsis:

The film follows Joe as he gets ready to introduce his fiancé to his Filipino parents. He prepares a home-cooked dinner hoping to improve their relationship and acceptance from his immigrant parents. As the parents are driving, they get lost in an unknown town off Exit 15. They call Joe to clarify where they are and get caught up unexpectedly in a mass shooting. The film is to be shot in one long take Birdman-style with a Steadicam, exploring the feeling of being helpless and powerless as our main character experiences the sounds of terror over the phone.
