My name is Evelyn Astafiev-Holmes and I am a junior at Oberlin College and Conservatory, studying neuroscience and violin performance. Every January, Oberlin has a winter term, during which students are responsible for coming up with and executing a project with educational value. In pursuing my neuroscience degree, I have had the chance to apply foundational knowledge in lab settings; however, given my interest in a medical career, my aspiration for this winter term is to apply what I have learned within the medical field. For this January, I have been accepted to a highly competitive health-focused program based in KCMC hospital in Moshi, Tanzania. This program is focused primarily on exploring a theme of comparative healthcare systems: in theory, through lectures and seminars, and in practice, through shadowing doctors.
Thanks to a grant through the Office of Career Exploration and Development at Oberlin, I am now able to cover a significantly greater portion of program costs. However, I still need any additional help possible with program fees, travel costs and room and board. All donations are appreciated, no matter the amount. Thank you!
