Help fund Eric's 5th U.S. surgery

As most of you already know, Eric has been living with severe and debilitating chronic pain for the past 5 years, since he sustained an injury playing hockey. We have been to the best doctors in Montreal and no one has been able to help. He was even prescribed opioids to treat the pain and live with it, but unfortunately those did not alleviate the pain at all.

In 2019, the Director of the McGill Sports Medicine Clinic, who is also the Team Physician for the Montreal Alouettes, the Montreal Impact and McGill Football and Soccer, referred us to a Core Muscle Specialist in Philadelphia who operates on professional athletes.

In 2020 and 2021, Eric had surgeries done at Philadelphia's Vincera clinic, which cost about $40,000 CAD. These surgeries brought some improvement, but he was still in a lot of pain 24/7 and was later diagnosed with Nerve Entrapment Syndrome. He was then referred to a peripheral nerve specialist in Las Vegas.

In 2022 and 2023, Eric had surgeries done by Dr. Tollestrop in Vegas and parts of several nerves were severed and removed in an attempt to suppress the transmission of the pain signal from the trapped nerves to the brain, since nothing else had worked. Unfortunately, due to the fact that there are so many nerves in the abdominal wall, where his pain is located, it's very hard to determine the exact culprit. Those surgeries ran us another $45,000 CAD.

Eric is now going for what we hope will be his final surgery, where they will operate from his upper back in an attempt to cut the nerve right from the root and basically trying to "pull the plug" on the pain transmitter. This surgery should be another $20,000 CAD.

For those who are less familiar with his ordeal, he has exhausted every ressource we had here in Montreal, and were absolutely unable to find any surgeon to perform these kinds of operations in Canada, where it would have been more affordable for us. He also tried Physiotherapy, Acupunture, Hypnotherapy, Naturopathy, Ostheopathy, Marijuana and prescription Opioids, to no avail.

Several of his friends over the years have offered financial help, and every time he politely declined because he kept thinking this surgery would be the last and everything would be ok again. He also felt really bad about accepting his friends money. But sadly, after $85,000 we have to go back for another one, and it's taking a bigger toll on our finances than we ever imagined as well as on our mental well-being.
