Citizens Network for Community Development Zambia is a registered nongovernmental organisation based in Zambia and was formed to address the growing needs for youths and communities to participate in solving challenges they face. We have been involved in grassroots climate activism, advocating for indigenous rights, sustainable development, climate education, frontline community resilience and others. We have worked with local initiatives and global movements to amplify the voices of those most affected by the climate crisis. We have also been addressing the main challenges faced by society by involving members of society. We are passionate about climate equity, ensuring that policy-making spaces reflect the realities of communities who are often excluded from them, hence our writing of this request.
Why we are Attending COP30
COP30 will take place in Belém, Brazil in 2025 a symbolic and strategic location at the heart of the Amazon, one of the world’s most vital ecosystems. This year’s summit is a critical moment for global climate negotiations, particularly in centering the needs of the Global South and indigenous and frontline communities. We believe attending COP30 is not just about being in the room but it’s also about ensuring that the voices, stories, and lived experiences of marginalized communities are heard where decisions are made and this is where we come in.
Our objectives for attending COP30 include:
- Advocating for climate finance that reaches the communities who need it most (we have lived the experience)
- Holding world leaders accountable to climate commitments and avoid rhetoric
- Building global networks for climate justice collaboration and impactful efforts
- Sharing back knowledge and opportunities with our community at home
This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to engage directly in high-level negotiations and bring urgent, underrepresented perspectives to the global stage.
We therefore, write to request sponsorship for 3 members of our team to attend COP30. The total costs of flights, accommodation and food is estimated at $20,000. We ask that your organisation could contribute towards with cause either through directly sponsoring (flights or accommodation) or a grant needed to meet these costs.
Please note that the team have already secured both accreditation and visas and what is only lacking is funding. Your support will make it possible for us to represent our communities and continue advocating for a more just, equitable, and sustainable world.
Thank you for believing in this work and walking alongside us on this journey!
