Help Cory & His Family Get the Treatment He Needs!

Donation protected
Our good friend Cory Baker is fighting to stay alive for his family every day as he battles a rare, recurring cancer. We have started this page to help Cory and his young family. Please help so Cory is able to remain by his family’s side. Let’s keep this Daddy alive!

If you are reading this, you may already know Cory. You may have seen him as the lead singer in a San Diego rock band called Jam Packed, or having a good time with friends and family who hail from the beaches of San Diego all the way back to Boston and the shores of Cape Cod.

We who love and admire Cory feel it is time to share his story in hopes that you and others find him deserving of your help. Cory is always the last person to ask for help and is always the first to offer it to another, so please consider donating, sharing this page, or spreading the word in any way you choose. Anything you do is appreciated. All donations will be given to Cory and his family to help pay medical expenses and the financial emergencies those expenses create.

Cory’s journey is not a story of sadness or defeat but one of inspiration and triumph. Please read his story and help him continue it!

Cory Baker is a 31-year-old husband, father and loyal friend who was diagnosed at age 15 with a rare recurring cancer of the thymus. Since the thymus educates our immune cells, Cory was left with a broken immune system, leading to more disease, chronic lung infections, and autoimmune illnesses, including Myasthenia gravis, alopecia, and vitiligo.

Cory has survived many complex treatments over the last 16 years. Some but not all include 2 open chest surgeries, 7 rounds of radiation, 2 stents put in his heart due to radiation damage, biopsies, and numerous IV antibiotic treatments for chronic lung and sinus infections. Cory requires regular IVIG infusions to boost his failing immune system. He has also lost his sense of taste and smell. Antibiotics have also led to partial deafness.

What is so inspirational here is that if you know Cory or even met him once you likely wouldn’t know there was anything wrong with him! He’d probably buy you a beer and talk about pretty much anything but himself. Despite the past 16 years of physical and mental punishment and setbacks, Cory has rallied to program himself to cherish life more and more. He loves his life to the fullest and his kindness and energy truly brings out the best in anyone around him.

Cory has never asked “why me,” and has always been focused on the suffering of others rather than himself. When first diagnosed with cancer as a teen, Cory made a vow that he would never feel sorry for himself after realizing that all the younger, sicker cancer kids he was treated alongside might never get the chance to get dirty in a playground as he had at a young age.

Things have gotten tough financially. This year alone Cory has been to the ER multiple times, adding up to weeks in the hospital away from family and friends. In addition, a severe chronic lung infection has required Cory to now be on oxygen for the first time in his life. Recovery from this setback will take time and patience. He is now unable to sing or support his family as he had, and his health has declined to the point where previous treatments are no longer an option.

Cory’s medical expenses are already piling up, and now he will require more out-of-pocket, expensive trial medications and treatments to keep him going. But, with these newer options funded, we can give Cory a shot at continuing his life for as long as possible. His will to live is astounding.

Most important to Cory is that he now has a family of his own and is in the fight of his life to raise his 3 young kids. Cory will tell you “His family is his everything.” We can all agree that nobody deserves to be this sick for this long, yet Cory has quietly battled the whole journey with his head held high and a smile on his face.
