In an existential comedy where 'Superbad' meets Shakespeare, best friends Neil and Will embark on a quest to empty their cup full of condoms before college graduation, all whilst concealing secrets from one another that threaten to put their plan, and friendship, at jeopardy.
Director's Statement: Shakespeare’s plays are wildly considered to be the foundation for much of the fiction we consume today. Despite having died over 400 years ago, his works are still adapted, performed, and taught. Similarly, despite having had centuries to evolve, young people (men in particular) still feel the need to perform roles established by frat boys come past, whether it be by doing the stupidest thing in the room and living to tell the tale, or getting the most chicks amongst their peers.
In my four years at college, I've borne witness to many, many performances, and not a single one has been on the stage. In an attempt to try and make the most of the college experience, students become determined to follow a script of cheap beer and hookups until they’re forced to walk the stage and enter the real world (where they’ll have to reserve these things for weekends rather than random Tuesdays in September). While this routine might work for some, and has grown pretty standard in the college sphere, what has really interested me have been those that don't want to follow the script but find themselves doing so anyway, concealing their real selves from others (and themselves) in an attempt to not ‘waste’ their college years. All this has been culminated into Condom Chalice, a script that explores how far one will go to follow the expectations set by college culture. Formatted like a Shakespeare play to mirror the personal performances each character puts on, frat parties meet prophecy as Neil and Will risk it all to empty their cup, discovering what they really want out of life in the way. A love letter to the many performances I've witnessed in my college years, my senior thesis goes out to both the Neils and Wills on stage that are taking the bow on their college years, and those like myself that observed them from the audience.
Any and all donations to help get this made would be a big help!! This is a very big project that I'm extremely passionate about, and it can't be done without the proper financial support. Money will be going towards food, transport, props (chalices and lyres don't come cheap!), sets, costumes, ect. If a donation can't be made, a share would still be a huge help, and thank you for taking the time to read about this project- excited to share it with you all!
