Hi, my name is Emily, I'm a Welsh, queer, working-class actor and writer producing my first play, 'Cherston'! It's taking place at The Hope Theatre in London from 18th-20th August 2026 and I'm raising funds for rehearsal space (~£200), set (~£150), lighting (~£100), and my creative team's time!
I graduated drama school in July 2025 and decided that I want to create my own work, after starting this script in 2024. It's based on my own lived experience in my first house share - a young, insecure people-pleaser, in an 8 person 2021 bubble. What could go wrong?
I hope to create a project that draws on everyday experiences, speaking to people at their core, and get them to question themselves and the world when the show is over. As a queer woman, feminist and queer stories are extremely important to me, and I want to be able to tell these in a truthful and complex way. I love it when queer characters just exist – them being queer should not just be the plot, it’s a given; I want to show these characters’ voices deeper. I want to show how messy, ugly, and raw women are. I want to explore how we deeply resent the patriarchy yet still subconsciously bend to its whim. The rejection of self-worth, the begging for love, the quiet strength of being alone. I want to explore characters that we cannot decide if we love or hate, as we recognise both parts in ourselves. I want to create realistic stories but told in a combined naturalistic and whimsical way – the power of shape, movement and music being a powerful way of expressing our inner feelings when words cannot. And these are my hopes for my script 'Cherston'.
We would love to potentially offer a filming of the show to those who are not able to travel to see it! If you'd like to come and support the show, you can buy a ticket here: https://www.ticketsource.com/thehopetheatre/e-bpreqa
Any donation to help us achieve this would be massively appreciated!
