Over the past six months, since Kayla has passed away from Peripartum cardiomyopathy (PPCM), Peripartum cardiomyopathy (PPCM)
a rare heart failure condition that occurs during pregnancy or up to six months after giving birth. It's a type of dilated cardiomyopathy, where the heart weakens and enlarges without another identifiable cause. PPCM causes the heart to pump less blood than normal, and the heart chambers may enlarge. The percentage of blood ejected from the heart with each beat, known as the ejection fraction, decreases. • We as a family have learned so much about PPCM and how important the BNP test is in detecting heart failure in pregnant women. We have decided to make our focus on raising funds for the BNP tests for pregnant moms some insurance companies don't cover the cost. For those moms who have to pay for the BNP test, the cost ranges from 50.00 to 150.00 per test. The BNP test can be a lifesaver for pregnant women. If done early enough, it can save a mother's life. In our research on PPCM, we have identified a few organizations that need help in covering the cost of the BNP test for women.
