Hi! My name is Angelina DeMonte I am a senior film student at Emerson College and I'm raising money to support my senior thesis film; Junk!
Junk is a story about a group of friends who encounter a monster, The Junk, while exploring a junkyard in their hometown. They find that their lives have been changed by this trauma and the looming presence of this powerful being over them. Ten years later one of them is arrested under suspicious circumstances in that very same junkyard leading the rest to believe that The Junk was somehow involved. They embark on a mission to break her out of jail, on the way encountering people and situations that force them to confront their past and the creature that has been haunting them. When they reach their destination they are forced to face the reality of The Junk’s existence (or lack there-of) and realize that there is not much they can do but remain by their friend’s side. This story is about friendship, found family, corruption in governing and law enforcement systems, and how lower income and working class communities in urban and rural settings (especially in Pennsylvania where the film is set) are being swallowed up by wealthier entities whether this be people or corporations. Junk explores the power of friendship and found family as a tool for changemaking and remaining steadfast in one's beliefs. This is a story for young people who feel forgotten by their communities and the corrupt law enforcement and governing systems that continue to oppress their opportunities and voices. With every struggle there is resilience among people that must be celebrated in whatever form we can muster.
