My name is Shakila King, and I am honored to serve as the students’ BSU advisor. My work is grounded in creating access, equity, and intentional opportunities that support students academically, socially, and emotionally.

This GoFundMe supports a deeply transformative HBCU college tour experience for four students during spring break—an experience rooted in exposure, empowerment, and possibility. We will be traveling through Louisiana and Texas, where students will visit seven Historically Black Colleges and Universities, including Xavier University of Louisiana, Dillard University, Southern University and A&M College, Prairie View A&M University, and Texas Southern University, along with additional HBCU campuses. Throughout the trip, students will engage in guided campus tours, learn about academic programs and student resources, and experience the vibrant culture, pride, and legacy that make HBCUs such powerful spaces of excellence and belonging.

We are fundraising $1,200 per student, which will fully cover round-trip flights, hotel accommodations, local transportation, campus and cultural activities, daily meals, and spending money. Your support removes financial barriers and helps ensure each student can fully participate, focus on the experience, and return home inspired, empowered, and ready to take the next steps toward college and beyond.

For many of our students, this will be their first time traveling out of state, their first time stepping onto a college campus, and their first opportunity to truly see themselves reflected in higher education. Walking through these campuses allows them to imagine new possibilities for their futures, build confidence, and gain clarity about their postsecondary goals. This experience is not just about college visits—it is about identity, affirmation, and expanding what students believe is possible for themselves.
