I'm an 11th grade English teacher working in a school almost entirely made up of African American and Latino students. It's a priority of mine to show students from different backgrounds ways they can work together to improve their communities.
Here, I'm fundraising for a field trip to an exciting new play called "Mexodus," playing at the Berkeley Rep, which tells the story of the underground railroad running south into Mexico. Here's how one reviewer described it:
"The stories of the 4,000 to 10,000 enslaved people in the United States who sought freedom in Mexico has remained largely untold .... [Writers and performers] Quijada and Robinson tell the story of those who used the Underground Railroad that led south to Mexico to underscore the power of Black and Brown unity."
I can't think of a better field trip for my juniors this year! I hope you'll be able to contribute - every bit helps! Thank you!
Cost breakdown:
Tickets are $38.50 each
I'm hoping to bring all 70 of my students, plus some chaperones
$38.50 x 75 = ~$2,800
