Hi! My name is Alisha and I ‘m a physical education teacher in Washington DC. As part of my PE curriculum, I teach all 2nd graders how to ride a bike.
This year, I have a student with spina bifida. This child’s has full mobility of their upper body and trunk but is unable to really move their lower body. My student uses a wheelchair for the majority of the day, but uses PE as a time to get out of the chair and move around.
I would love to purchase an adapted children’s handcycle so that my student is fully included in the biking lessons and is also able to do the neighborhood bike ride culminating event at the end of the unit.
It would mean so much to me if we were able to do this for my student. I will also be able to use this adapted bike for any additional students in wheelchairs, that I may teach in the future.
Thank you so much for your thoughtful generosity!!
