Help Fund Amy Ewaldt's Breast Cancer Treatment

In August 2021, our beloved friend, mentor, and teacher, Amy Ewaldt, received a diagnosis of an aggressive form of Breast Cancer. At this time, Amy is undergoing further testing, including an Axillary lymph needle biopsy and full body and bone CT scans, to see if/how far it has spread. As of now, Amy’s best-case plan of treatment includes lumpectomy and lymph node removal(s), radiation, and 10 years of hormone therapy. This page will be updated as we continue to learn more about Amy’s condition and prognosis.

 

Amy has devoted her life’s work to nurturing children in the beginnings of their educational journeys--curating a safe and wondrous space of exploration, enrichment and community with the founding of Cortland Preschool in 2009, and now as Director at Scuola Italiana Enrico Fermi (SIEF). Countless children and families have benefited from her passion, creativity and mastery of teaching, along with her unique ability to build relationships and communities that grow and flourish with a great deal of love and meticulous cultivation. So many lives have been made better through Amy’s unmatched excellence and tireless compassion. Simply put, she is an amazing human being.

 

For all that Amy has given us, the Cortland and SIEF communities and the greater Logan Square/Wicker Park communities, it is now our turn to show up for her in a big way. Just as she has shown us through her selfless, daily commitment to our children and community-at-large, we must join together to support Amy through her journey to fight and overcome Breast Cancer. Your contributions will help to relieve the tremendous financial burdens of prolonged treatment in order to keep alive her precious, important dreams of a bright and healthy future.
