Hello Everyone. Demetria and Lauren here fundraising for our dearest friend Amanda Leadbetter.
On December 6th: Amanda, sister n law Jenny, Lauren, and I flew to Florida. It was an impromptu one day trip upon finding a cheap flight. We flew in, stayed a few hours, flew back.
It was in the early morning hours of December 7th when we landed back into Cleveland. We were all exhausted and as I live the furthest away I decided to stay the night with Amanda.
I woke up later that morning to just lay in bed and wait to hear her move about before I got out of bed. I was sending pictures from our trip to our group message when around 10:40am I heard a thud.
I then heard Amanda calling my name. She says, behind a closed door, I have fallen out of bed and I can’t get up. At first I’m just thinking she’s joking. How can she not stand up?
I open the door to discover a much different situation than I could have ever imagined. Amanda is indeed on the floor with glazed eyes and is completely paralyzed on the entire right side of her body. She had a stroke. 911 seemed like an eternity to answer and the ambulance seemed to take longer.
She was taken by Ambulance to the hospital. Scans discovered a significant blood clot in her brain. She was life flighted to UH in Cleveland to have an emergency surgery to remove the clot. The surgery was the only option she had to prevent permanent damage or any further damage to what she had already sustained.
So far, Amanda has had an ambulance ride, a life flight, many CT scans and MRIs. She had a life-saving mechanical thrombectomy to remove her clot. She spent 2 days in ICU, and is currently in regular patient care for a few days, and then will have a long stay at an impatient rehabilitation facility. She will need improvements done to her home for her return. Her husband Keith has taken time off work to be by her side. She has a long road of recovery ahead of her.
All of this adds up quickly.
It was at this point, a discussion was had, that we need to start fundraising for Amanda to relieve some financial pressure so that she can just focus on getting better.
I know we are all in times of need with the cost of inflation and Christmas right around the corner but anything helps. If you are unable to donate please think of her and say a prayer for her and her family.
Thank You ❤️
