Help Fund Amanda's Endometriosis Surgery
Donation protected
Hi ... my name is Dawn. I live in Toronto, Canada and I'm raising funds to help fund life-changing surgery for my dear friend Amanda Headley who lives on the island of Barbados.
Amanda has been diagnosed with stage-4 endometriosis (the most severe stage) and requires surgery ASAP. The required surgery is known as Laparoscopic Complex Surgery and will be undertaken by a team of doctors in Barbados. Amanda requires financial assistance to pay for this urgent surgery.
Endometriosis is a debilitating condition that effects millions of women around the world. The symptoms can be so severe that sufferers feel helpless and lose hope. There is no cure but there is help and there is hope! The severe pain she has endured over the past few months have had a severe impact on her physical and mental health and at times she has had suicidal thoughts. These details are not easy to share for Amanda, but this is a burden she can no longer manage alone, so she is publicly sharing her story and asking for your help.
Amanda's condition has resulted in adhesions everywhere within her pelvic region (ovaries, uterus, bladder, colon, rectum, pelvic walls, etc.) along with an endometrioma (chocolate cyst) the size of a tennis ball on the “left ovary” and a hemorrhagic cyst the size of an orange on the “right ovary” and a few smaller cysts on either side. I’ve put left and right in “” quotation marks because both an ultrasound and MRI have confirmed that her ovaries are now STUCK together as a result of the severity of her disease.
Amanda is in SEVERE PAIN every day! She takes prescription narcotic pain meds and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory tablets 3 times a day just to keep her from being rushed to the ER and put on drips, which still happens from time to time. She cries, screams and tosses and turns but no position is comfortable. Everyday she suffers from nausea, headaches, foot and leg cramps and it generally feels like there are a bunch of tiny soldiers in her abdomen trying to carve their way out with sharp instruments.
The surgery we are trying to fund will:
· Remove the multiple cysts on both of her ovaries
· Divide and remove the adhesions in an effort to restore the anatomy of her ovaries into their correct positions
· Safely remove any excess endometrial cells found within her pelvis without damage to the organs being affected and last but not least
· Give her the hope and opportunity to possibly conceive and start a family.
This surgery should ease her pain for at least a few years. The doctor said she will never actually be pain free as the endometriosis has spread to areas where there are no safe surgical options. Most women who get surgery have a re-occurrence within 2-5 years, some longer if they are lucky.
Amanda is a warrior! She has faith and is not giving up but she needs your help. #endowarrior
