Help Fund Alley Seventeen's First Album!

Donation protected
We are Alley Seventeen and this Spring we really want to record and release our debut album, and we would love your support!  Interested and want to know more? Read on….. and know in advance that we are so grateful for anyone who chooses to support our campaign!

BAND BIO ::
Alley Seventeen, based in Durham, NC, incorporates the rhythmic roots of great American music to craft undeniable melodies and engaging lyrical narratives. Influences span from Etta James and Amy Winehouse to Alabama Shakes and Vulfpeck.  According to Indy Week, “Alley Seventeen inventively pairs jazzy vocals with indie pop arrangements”.
Alley Seventeen and its current members came together in August 2017.  Prior to that the members had played with one another in other various formations and groups during the previous three years.  In February 2018, they won the high school Battle of the Bands at the revered Carrboro venue Cat’s Cradle.
Alley Seventeen has performed at festivals and venues including the Pinhook, Nasher Museum at Duke, Cat’s Cradle, Pour House, and Centerfest.

WHY NOW ::
We have been creating music for three years and have written more than a dozen original songs (enough material to fill a full length album!)
We’ve done a couple of demo recordings at home and in smaller recording studios, giving us the experience required to make the most of studio time.
Look us up on Spotify or any other streaming service to hear some of our better demos!

MOST OF ALL! We are really excited about all this music we’ve written and we want to share it with the world!

T-SHRTS ::
We’ll be printing T-Shirts for everyone that donates more than $100.  We’ll distribute the shirts at the album release party (time and location TBD) and then mail shirts to those who aren’t local and/or can’t make the show.
The shirts feature the artwork of our singer, Sophie Feierman, who is also an amazing visual artist.

RECORDING BUDGET AND GAME PLAN ::
We are asking for $2,100 to help us complete the full length album.  We plan to record at Overdub Lane in Durham, which is $625 per day.  We expect that we can track, mix, and master the entire album in three days at a total cost of $1,875.
Once we cover processing fees of the GoFundMe campaign (3%) and cover the production costs for T-Shirts for donors who give more than $100, we should have exactly the amount we need.

Why record at Overdub Lane?
Overdub Lane is an amazing studio right down the street from where we all live, and it is an amazing value for what it offers at $625 per day.
John Plymale, who owns the studio
and is the recording engineer, has been a mainstay of the NC music scene since the early 80’s, and many of our musical idols, including Squirrel Nut Zipper, Superchunk, The Mountain Goats, Hiss Golden Messenger, and Tift Merritt have recorded with John at Overdub Lane.
We can’t think of a better place to record our debut album and to learn and be mentored through the process of crafting the sound of our debut album than at Overdub Lane with John.
We hope that with the success of this campaign, we can put a deposit down and “lock out” three days at the studio for early April and release the album in late spring or early summer.

POST ALBUM RELEASE PLANS ::
We really want to “level up” in terms of gigs.  We’ve been really lucky to be asked to play at lots of festivals, fundraisers, and other community events, but without a full length album, it’s hard to get higher profile gigs.
We’d really like to start opening for touring bands when they come through the Triangle as well as headline some bigger venues as well!

ALLEY SEVENTEEN MEMBERS ::
Kaitlyn Pedde is equally at home on upright and electric bass.  She discovered her passion for the bass in 2016 after years of playing guitar.  She favors a rhythmically aggressive style and counts Joe Dart and Ray Brown as influences.  Kaitlyn’s love of jazz informs her compositions.
Casey Cheatham has studied drums and percussion since age nine.  While accomplished in all areas of percussion, her strongest affinity is for hard-charging jazz, hip-hop, soul, and funk.  She actively models her drumming after genre-blurring drummers such as Darren Jesse, Questlove, and Glenn Kotche.
Sophie Lowry started singing since before she can remember and began playing guitar when she was eight years old.  She triples as the group’s lead guitarist, soloist, and second singer.  Influenced by the R&B and Americana that she grew up with, Lowry incorporates the full gamut of American guitarists into her playing.
Sophie Feierman's soulful lead singing establishes the group’s undeniable melodic focal point.  Her love of jazz-influenced soul singers such as Amy Winehouse and Etta James is evident in both her singing and composing.  Feierman also creates Alley Seventeen’s art and visual identity.
