Hi! My name is Travis Ploeger, and I run the choral and drama programs at John F Kennedy High School in Silver Spring, MD. Our drama program is starting the slow (but, rewarding) path to revival after COVID smothered it. When I arrived in the fall of 2024, there had not been any theater production at all the previous year, and we did a musical revue my first spring, last year. This past fall, we had our first play (an original, "Shakespeare KILLS!"), and now... our first musical in years!
Our booster club for the drama club is reforming, and we aren't yet officially all with dotted i's and crossed t's, so I'm starting up this GoFundMe for a specific purpose: to fund an accompanist for our spring musical, FINDING MADAME CURIE. It's the high school DEBUT of this new and award-winning musical, written less than a decade ago by Melissa Bell and David Kurkowski.
Our original plan was to have the pit orchestra completely comprised of students, but we have decided we need a professional accompanist to supplement them. That's where YOU come in!
The total cost for the rehearsals and performances shouldn't exceed $1,000. And that's $1,000 that our financially-struggling school (let alone drama program) does not currently have.
