Help fund a trans composer's new musical!
Donation protected
Hi! My name is Neil Klein; I am a 20-year-old transgender composer and playwright. My new musical, “In My Head I’m 21” is about a trans high schooler who sees prophetic visions. Set against the backdrop of the impending Y2K computer crisis that serves as a metaphor for fear of an uncertain future, “In My Head I’m 21” takes us on a journey of self-discovery and acceptance that suggests being trans is itself a superpower of future sight, because what else is transness if not the ability to see a different future for yourself?
This musical is very near and dear to me. As a trans person, all my art is influenced by that part of me, but not until now have I written an entire musical about it.
I am ready to move forward with this project. I have a full cast, crew, and band ready!
The plan is to perform this show April 22-24 at the Boston Center for the Arts beautiful Black Box Theater– you are welcome to attend! This fundraiser will be used to cover the cost of renting this performance space ($3,000), the minimal props and costumes we need ($300), and other various costs that may come up, like printing programs or any publicity we may do ($150).
All funds that are not used for the production will be donated to FOR THE GWORLS, a black and trans-run charity that helps black trans people pay for rent and gender-affirming surgeries.
I hope you agree with me that the story of the trans experience is worth telling and sharing. If you can't donate - send us positive vibes and forward this to someone who may like to contribute.
You can reach me at [email redacted] I am happy to answer any questions regarding this fundraiser and/or the production.
Thank you so much!
