Hello, I'm a student filmmaker from UCSB, producing a documentary short in the Greenscreen Film course in the FAMST Dept. We aim to create a documentary on environmental justice and environmental racism in Bakersfield. The Central Valley is home to our country's worst case of air pollution. We are filming this piece using community members' lived experiences to share the sources and effects of pollution. Beneath persistent smog, the BIPOC communities are disproportionately affected by this pollution. This county is being gentrified and will continue to be, as more people move to California, displacing locals. By centering community voices alongside environmental analysis, this documentary frames Bakersfield as a case study of systemic inequality embedded in California’s agricultural landscape that feeds the US. Please support us on our journey to show the reality that many live.
