Hi, I am trying to raise funds to enable my extremely disabled son David to have a short break with his two carers.
David was diagnosed with progressive Multiple Sclerosis at the age of thirty and rapidly detoriated from a healthy, fit young man into a wheelchair bound individual. Over the years MS has ravaged his body leaving him wheelchair bound and unable to do anything for himself. David can barely feed himself relying on two carers to do everything for him. His speech is now impaired and he is very quietly spoken.
In spite of this awful illness David has remained cheerful and retained his good sense of humour.
David would like a holiday as he has not had one for many years. I feel that he should take a break now while he is still able.
David cannot afford to pay for a holiday as he relies on PIP and UC to enable him to live.
However it is not the actual cost of the holiday but the extra cost of paying for two carers to accompany him. In addition to this David’s care is funded by CHC which will only fund so many hours for one of the carers meaning that David would have to make the cost of extra care himself. The holiday camp that David has chosen can provide an adapted chalet, However David would have to pay to hire a low profile bed and a hoist to enable him to be cared for. This equipment is quite expensive to hire but is necessary to enable the carers to look after him.

David has not a holiday since he was diagnosed with this illness and would benefit greatly from a change of scenery. I would like to see him have some fun and happiness before this terrible disease robs him of everything, At least he will have some good memories of a holiday

David requires care by two carers one at 12 hours a day and the other carer 7 and half seven days a week. The problem is David is in receipt of Contining Health care funded by the NHS. They refuse to pay an extra 5 and half hours for the other carer to go even though this would only be for four days. We would have to find this care ourselves roughly £300. David would love a few days away maybe at Butlins. Which would cost £750 for 3 days, He would have would have to hire in a low profile bed and hoist. This would cost in the region of £500 for the hire. We are hoping we could raise around £2000 for this short break.
