As I finish my final semester of my Master’s in Sustainable Tourism, I have decided to take the opportunity to travel to the Caribbean this December for a week to supplement my research for my Applied Project. Both sides of my family hail from Caribbean Islands (Haiti and The Bahamas) and my master’s thesis is surrounding the topic of shifting tourist behaviors and the tourism industry to be more sustainable towards Caribbean economies, societies, and the environment. I’ve been applying for scholarships and assistance for months, but nothing has come through. I’m able to graduate this Fall, but have chosen instead to participate in this program, which starts on the day of my graduation. I have decided to formally walk next Spring of 2026. I’m also attempting to learn Spanish, reading prominent Caribbean authors, and researching the fascinating and devastating history of colonialism within the Caribbean and its subsequent influence on tourism today. My program costs are $5360. I applied for a well deserved raise, but was unfortunately denied due to budget cuts to our university. I must pay this balance off before I can get my degree, and I’m working hard to save and earn extra income where I can. I’m continuing to apply for scholarships up until I can no longer. I know times are tough for all of us right now, especially financially, but if you can spare any amount, I will be so grateful. I chose to participate in this program instead of attending my graduation because I know that my passion for this degree and my need to serve others less fortunate than me outweighs the celebration of my graduation. Please feel free to ask me any questions you have about the program or my experience before I leave and once I have returned. For friends and family, in lieu of a graduation gift, this would mean so much more to me. For strangers, you owe me nothing, but I would be so grateful to you for your generosity, no matter the price. I plan to share my experience with everyone once I return. Participating in this program will supplement my Master’s tenfold. Thank you in advance! Please feel free to contact me at [email redacted] with any questions or comments!
