Help Fund a Custom wheelchair & Change A Life

Donation protected
Hello World…

Here I am. Mindy A 30 something with Cerebral Palsy fundraising for a new wheelchair. My current chair is 9 years old and well, bodies change, needs change, and lives change. My current chair has been good to me and enables me to enjoy life to an extent, now though it’s time for an upgrade.

I need a chair made for me. Customized to me, rather than something “off the shelf”. Something which fits my body and lifestyle now. not my body and lifestyle nine years Something which will last me another decade if not longer.

I have gone from a wheelchair which let me be a part of the world to a chair, in which, I have to plan a max of three hour outings as my chair now causes pain in the joints it once provided respite. I end up at home seeing the four walls of my bedroom 95% of the time. Not able to go out because of the pain I deal with from the chair which once provided me mobility, now hampering my mobility. I want to be out in the world, not watching it from the sidelines. A new custom chair will allow me to do that and so more.

The service which exists for getting wheelchairs, where I live, is subpar for my needs and the customizations I am able to make. I have consulted with them in the past and they were unable to be open-minded and made me feel horrible within my body and within a char. They tried to force me into a chair they can get easily; versus a chair that actually works for me. Saying “you’re making the mistake that most people make trying to make a chair work around your environment when the chair should work for you.“ The chair they wanted to put me in would not fit through my doors and would be much too big on me. But I was “spilling out of my chair” according to them. “But some people like that”. After they asked me about my weight three times once before they even knew my name I knew I would not be going back, nor getting a chair from them.

The occupational therapy services I am able to access have a waitlist of at least six months if not longer and aren’t a whole lot better. I don’t know if my chair has six months left in it. The bigger question, is can my body can take being in this much longer.

My current chair got me out into the world. This next chair will change my life - letting me be me.

I thank everyone in advance for any amount they may be able to give. I understand times are tough and if you are not able to donate all I ask is you share my story with someone.

*All funds will go to the wheelchair and the occupational therapy appointments to make sure it fits.
